Road Report: San Antonio FC Home Opener

San Antonio FC kicked off their USL home campaign Saturday night with a record-setting crowd. The home team got off to a slow start as Swope Park Rangers took the early lead when a loose ball found the SAFC net in the 2nd minute.

Both clubs are expansion sides for the 2016 USL regular season, but have had hot starts in league play. Throughout the first half, SAFC controlled possession and equalized in the 42nd minute. The second half was a back and forth struggle, with each team failing to find another goal. The standing room only crowd of 8,466 stayed strong until the end, and celebrated the tough earned point. The next match at Toyota Field is slated for Saturday, April, 30th, against the Tulsa Roughnecks (see SanAntonioFC.com for the full schedule and ticket details).

An Austin highlight on the night was seeing the return of Kris Trypak to Texas. Tyrpak started on the attacking left for Swope Park but switched to the right midway through the first half. Max Gunderson, another former Aztex professional, is on the SAFC roster but did not see action.

Prior to the contest, the Crocketteers hosted another one of their well-known tailgates. The estimated 1,000 supporters that were in attendance were greeted with live music, food, and a river of drinks.
